LT3-Ex is the version of the LAMTEC lambda transmitter designed for hazardous areas; with an LS2-Ex or KS1D-Ex probe it forms a microprocessor-based measuring system. The transmitter's type of protection is flameproof enclosure (Ex d) or, alternatively, increased safety (Ex eb), so the complete system of transmitter and probes can be used in Ex zones 1 and 2. With the KS1D-Ex probe it measures O₂ in the excess-air range (λ > 1) and, at the same time, COe, the sum signal of oxidisable components such as CO/H₂; with the LS2-Ex probe it measures oxygen only.
The unit is operated with a magnetic pen while the housing stays closed, so no special measures are needed while it runs in Ex zones 1 and 2. The magnetic panel shows O₂ and CO readings, probe and fuel information, warnings and faults, and is used for settings such as measurement adjustment, filter time, analogue output and probe exchange. The standard version is SIL1 certified to DIN EN 61508, and the configuration with two transmitters is SIL2 certified to the same standard.
With the GED FLEX gas extraction device, the probes measure in flue gas at up to 1400 °C, depending on the device material. KS1D-Ex covers a COe range of 0…1000 ppm, or 0…10 000 ppm on request. The system is used with light fuel oil, natural gas and coal firing, and other fuels are possible on request. For longer distances between LT3-Ex and the probe, there is a PCB-Ex probe connection box for Ex zones 1 and 2, plus an ATEX connecting and extension cable that links the probe to the box.

LT3-Ex explosion-protected measuring system
LS2-Ex probe
Lambda probe that measures oxygen in Ex zones 1 and 2; IP65, ambient temperature in the hazardous area -20…+60 °C. It is used with the GED FLEX gas extraction device, whose immersion depth is adjustable.
KS1D-Ex combination probe
Combination probe for Ex zones 1 and 2 with a heated ZrO₂ cell carrying O₂, COe and reference electrodes; it measures O₂ together with COe, the sum of oxidisable components such as CO/H₂. It carries the same Ex markings as LS2-Ex and is used with GED FLEX. COe accuracy is ±25 % of reading, not better than ±20 ppm.
